  GRAFTON RAMPAGE Report 30/01/10

Despite a good fight and a bounce back after last week, the Rampage fell short of the required target at the Papatoetoe Rec ground today.

Winning the toss, the Rampage elected to bowl first and after a good first 12-14 overs took the pressure off and went to sleep for the next 10! It was a very hot day and unfortunately we did feel the brunt of it.

Despite a good closing 10 overs Papatoetoe made 256, which was probably 35-40 more than they should have got but not unattainable given the wicket was flat, some of the boundaries were short and the outfield was very fast.

After last weeks batting calamity, there was a new look to the top 3 with Nigel, Jimmy and Jeremy taking up the challenge. There were many contributions right through from numbers 2-6, however, needing 10 an over for the last 10 provided too much of an ask and we fell 47 runs short. It was pleasing to see people more careful with their shot selection proving that everyone is more than capable.

With 3 games to go in the round, we need to win all three to have a chance of making the top four. Luckily these games are against teams we can beat so we have an easier run in than some others. The Chronic and Papatoetoe have to play each other and both have to play unbeaten East Coast Bays Black so we have everything to play for!
