GRAFTON vs NORTH SHORE REP DAY 21st February 2010

  26/02/2010

  Hi everyone

A great afternoon of Rep cricket was had on Sunday against North Shore. Unfortunately Grafton lost overall, 2-4.

We apologise for the lack of formal prizegiving and we are re-visiting how we can do this better for the Tamaki Cup on March 21. Our match reports are as follows:

YEAR 2s....LOSS
Shane says....What a wonderful occasion our team made us very proud, I was impressed with the standard of play, in the end a close fought match with Grafton just falling short of North Shore 122 to Grafton 110. I hope the budding black caps enjoyed themselves under very harsh hot conditions. My Player of the Day is George Parsons hitting 25 with the bat and taking 1 wicket for 7 runs, his batting certainly gave us a chance.

YEAR 3s....LOSS

YEAR 4s....WIN
An extremely hard fought match with Grafton bowling and fielding very well to restrict North Shore to 76 runs. George Cory-Wright led the bowling attack with 3 wickets for -9 runs, including a magnificent caught and bowled. However, batting proved just as tough for Grafton, and we needed 29 runs in the final 5 over partnership to win. Mathew Kelsall and Sam Middleberg took on what seemed to be an impossible task and scored 16 and 15 runs respectively to finish on 79 with victory by 3 runs. George, Mathew and Sam were joint Players of the Day for their outstanding efforts.

YEAR 5As....LOSS

YEAR 6s.....LOSS
North shore having won the toss decided to bat. With some great opening bowling the Grafton attack had the Shore openers under pressure, unfortunately this pressure couldn't be maintained and the runs started to flow. Fielding in the heat of a rather hot Auckland day made concentration hard to maintain and a couple of missed opportunities didn't help the Grafton cause. Chasing a large total of 148 off 28 overs, Grafton couldn't have got off to a worse possible start. With a scoreboard that resembled that of a West Indies team in Australia, after a few overs, it was always going to be a long afternoon. With the Shore attack enjoying the Vic Pk wicket and the warm conditions, we witnessed a great display of bowling and fielding by a well drilled team who gave very few opportunities. The home team finishing on 104 all out.
Player of the day for Grafton was Sam Schumacher, on debut.

YEAR 7s.....WIN

Grafton 184 runs, NSCC 182 runs. Grafton won the toss and elected to bat and with the modest Vic Park boundaries big pinch hitter Craig Franswah opened with a quick-fire 52 from 24 balls and a rockin start oh yeah! Arthur Close was first drop and smashed 35 off 30 odd balls with some fine cricketing shots, and Will Wallace knocked a smart and efficient 30 from 30 balls and Nikheil Bhana smashed 22 from 10 balls to give Grafton a very good score. NSCC weren't to be taken lightly and started demolishing some of our bowling and it came down to them needing 12 off their last over to win but they fell short by 2 runs! Other contributors to note were Ben Buckley who bowled extremely well as did Cameron Newlands. Ryan Williams had a solid knock, and other able cricketers to contribute were Tim Jenkins, Isaac Ah Kuoi-Atmore, Alex McCullough and Leo Drake-Rogers.

So overall, North Shore Won 4-2

.....and YEAR 5Bs
Grafton 100 beat N Shore 99

Grafton Y5B's won the toss and put N Shore in to bat. Tight bowling from every player, enthusiastic fielding, a regular flow of wickets - Daniel Nihotte (3), Mike Elston (2), Luka Borich (2) - and some superb catching - Lewis Whitta (3) Isaac Hocking-Whitehead (2) - enabled us to restrict them to 99 runs. Grafton responded with a controlled run chase, passing the total with 9 balls to spare and the loss of only 4 wickets. Excellent contributions were made by Lewis Whitta (31 retired) and Thomas Francis (25). The game was played in a great spirit.

Cheers
Chris
